 Women That Fought For Equality

This iconic civil rights photograph of two fifteen-year-old girls, perfectly encapsulates the South at the time. This photo, taken by journalist Will Counts, shows Elizabeth Eckford, one of the nine African-American students who were denied entrance to Little Rock’s Central High School in 1957, while Hazel Bryan Massery, shouted racial epithets at her.
Meet Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon (illegally) 50 years ago. This historic photo shows her getting attacked by an official who tried to remove her from the 1967 Boston Marathon.
