Diver's incredible helicopter leap in front of Statue of Liberty

World champion cliff diver Orlando Duque leaps from a helicopter hovering above the Hudson to perform a spectacular back flip against the stunning backdrop of the Statue of Liberty.
The Colombian daredevil, 38, performed the stunt to promote the fifth stop of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series due to take place this weekend in Boston.
Mr Duque, who won the first ever Gold medal in the sport at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, Spain, dropped 75 feet from the helicopter reaching speed of over 50 mph.

The action was brilliantly captured using a 'multiple exposure' photographic technique showing the diver at 12 separate intervals, split seconds apart, before he hits the water.

He said: 'It’s really exciting to get such a warm welcome back to the U.S.. It doesn’t get any better than diving in front of something as iconic as the Statue of Liberty. It’s beyond what I ever could have imagined.'
American divers competing in Boston will include Michigan's David Colturi, Florida's Steven LoBue, California's Kent De Mond, Indiana's Kyle Mitrione and Andy Jones of Las Vegas.
Britain's Gary Hunt who won last year's world series is currently topping the leaderboard as he looks to defend his title.
